Whenever I cut my fingernails they always come out uneven and jagged and they look horrible...how exactly do I cut them so that the ends look right..

I have a friend who is obsessive about his fingernails. It's okay.

I recommend a new pair of clippers, and an emery board if you're that concerned. A new pair of clippers make clean cuts, whereas older clippers will just make your nails jagged as all hell.

They don't have to be new, but make sure you get a good set...I've been using the same ones for years now and it still cuts well. Good form to the curve, good file...I don't need an emery board and after a day and a shower, they look fine. For the most part, I'm concerned with how sharp the clippers are and their shape.

If you want them to look nice immediately, you'll need to use a nail file(emery board).

If you want them to look nice after a few days, you just need a good set of clippers and to pay attention to what you're doing.

I just use the big toenail clipper since it's rounded, and then I use the little filer to smooth 'em out

I just use a good set of clippers (I actually find the cheap ones very uncomfortable/borderline painful to use), then I give them a quick hit with the file attached to the clippers (Honestly not even for looks, just to get rid of any jagged edges for the sake of any female who I may come in contact with).

Go metro and cut your nails and shape them with those emery boards. Then polish with a fine grit board. You can get a four sided nail file at Walmart that has varying grits. Once you are done, wash your hands in warm soapy water to get rid of the filings.

Use good clippers, I have a sh|tty pair that I accidentally use sometimes that pretty much just tears the nail off. I gotta remember to throw it away next time. I make multiple cuts per finger nail. Then I rub all my finger tips on my jeans or a textured couch to wear off all the sharp points quickly. Emery board is just a waste of time...it only works on a single finger at a time!

Are you really supposed to cut your fingernails round and your toenails straight? I've been cutting my big toe round ever since I started, because it looks weird if I cut straight. And how do you get the skin right under the top of the nail to be round? Do you push it in with a file like you do the cuticles?

I use 3 (sometimes 5) cuts. One on each side, then a big one in the middle to form the primary curve. Sometimes I clip off the corners formed by the three intersecting "cut-lines", making the 5 clips.
