How do you create a forum for a website?

I am building a small website using FrontPage 98 and was wondering how difficult it is to create a forum. I know FP is not a great program, but it does the job just fine for me, I'm not interested in a fancy site, I just need to get the information up there.

Is there a program to create a forum? I don't know anything about this and would appreciate any tips.

I'm not sure about Frontpage 98, but with Frontpage2000 and Frontpage2002 I think you can insert a forum. I never tried it though, so I'm not sure how it works.

There are two really good FREE forums I know of. The first is YaBB, the second is Ikonboard.

YaBB requires the use of CGI and PERL access (you'll need to check if your web space hosting provider supports this). Ikonboard requires access to a database such as mySQL (your host should also be able to tell you if your webspace supports this). They are both very easy to setup and configure.

About YaBB, it seems that there is some bad (malicious?) HTML code on their site that
causes browser memory usage to rocket up to 300MB! High chance of crashing any
system that views their page! This happened to me on Win32 (IE5 and Mozilla) and
Linux (Mozilla, Konqueror). Lynx appears to be immune at the moment.

I second that. YABB is by far the best FREE Forum and Ikonboard is a close second in my opinion, YABB get higher marks from me becuase they offer better support from their website.
