How do you copy Xbox One saved game files to an external hard drive?

I haven't used my X1 in like a year for gaming so I had to update my dashboard. I'm preparing to trade this X1 in since I'm getting the X1X and holy shit the dashboard on X1 is just a huge pile of shit as far as UX goes. Like MS has absolutely no clue about creating good UI's. This thing is all over the god damn place.

And I can't even figure out how the fuck to copy a saved game file to an external hard drive. Is this even possible? I've read something about them saving to the cloud, but I haven't had Xbox Live Gold for years and I don't see any of this cloud shit in the dashboard as it seems like I should based off of the searches I've done.

Does anyone know how the hell I can simply copy my saved game data to an external hard drive? This was such a piece of cake to just back up everyone on PS4 because I just pushed one button and it backed up everything. This is just a huge mess to try and back up stuff on here.

I'm 75 percent sure you can't copy save games

i am too after trying even more last night. I'm 99.9% sure you can't now.

I'm also sure that my saves are stored to the Cloud after searching MS's website last night and finding it saying anyone with an XBL account (Golf or not) uses cloud saves as long as you connect.

And this goes back to their stupid UX (or lack there of) and it clearly stating "(Internal)" in the saved data section of games. For the actual game data it shows "(Internal)" and "(External)" depending if its on an internal or external hard drive. So that makes sense. But I'm guessing the save data is internal since it pulled it "from the cloud" however it doesn't even let you know that, or have an option to delete it from the cloud. Just piss poor design and implementation.

Does the game give you the option to save to the cloud? My first try would be that.

Second try is to move entire game to external hard drive using Xbox to do so - once the unit recognizes the drive you can move games to any drive. Then detach that hard drive, connect it to your PC and look for and grab the saved games folder for that game - assuming its not encrypted - which I doubt it would be. The second method is a total guess.

Im wondering if companies don't want customers screwing with save data because it could allow them to hack in game currency.

Pretty much
Yet they allowed you to back up Xbox 360 saved games to your PC.

It has nothing to do with screwing around with saved files. It's easy to avoid hacked save game files and they have been dealing with this forever, on console and PC.

I think some of it is related to trophies and achievements. Sometimes people would share save files and you would get achievements to your account that you didn't earn. They started encrypting them on PS3 after a time.
