how do you convery mpeg to divx using virtual dub

when I go to compression and change it to divx and then choose a process it converts it but the size doesn't get any smaller

need to know more info:

size of file you're compressing
type of file. (mpeg, mpeg2?)
settings you used for divx codec
version of codec
method of encoding
etc...

mpeg2 I'd like to conserve disk space so small as possible

I thought Vdub didn't support mpeg-2.

I recommend Windows Media Codec 8 too. I find it much better than divx.
