how do you connect to ranked servers in BF2?

hello,

I got BF2 about a month ago and when i first tried to connect to a ranked server, it gave me the error message that "this sever only allows players with unmodified content to join, please revert your version to the original and try again. I havent done anything to it at all but it still gives me this message whenever i connect.

I have not updated to any patches yet, just left it like it was when i bought it new. should I update to the new patch? It dosent seem like thats the problem the error message points out. I can connect to the unranked ones fine, though.

Anybody have any ideas?

Upgrade to 1.02, then you'll be able to connect. You can download from here:

If after upgrading, you still can't connect, try to manually update punkbuster. You shouldn't have to do this step, but if the server is too busy to send you the update you can do it manually.

I agree with the above poster. Thats the version mismatch error you are getting. All ranked servers I'm aware of are running v1.02.

ah, okay. I was hesitant about updating because on the start bar it read as BF2 v 1.0242..
and on and on. Just thought that might be version 1.02 but guess not. Unless they started shipping with the patch?

Also, i thought if a sever was a different version than yours, it would be in red.

Ill try updating anyways, though and tell you guys the results

I honestly wouldn't trust the BF2 browser to do ANYTHING that they say it's supposed to do It works "ok" but that's about it. Most of the features such as filters, pings, etc do not work right. This is why a lot of people use Xfire to connect to games.

Xfire, BF2autoloader, Gamespy (gasp). Pick your poison the in game server browser dosnt give good pings, dosnt up date and is generaly useless. Become as one with this young grasshopper and you will prevail.

Yeah, I personally use Xfire...it seems to work very well.
