Problem, got a really old TV, c1980, and all it has it is the cable input thingie. No RCA. I can run the DVD thru the VCR, but it bungs up the pic due to the copy protection crap. Any ideas? I know I can use one of those macrovision defeaters, but was just wondering if there was another way?

What you need is a "dynamic mode converter". They should have that at Radio Shack as well as a "flux capacitor". ;)

I searched for RF converter and got zilch on Radio shack site, radio frequecny converter yields 20K hits...

It is the 75-300ohm thingie that you need. I have an extra one if you want to stop by and pick it up.

I said something suggesting that the TV be thrown away, but I figured that it might be useless. I'm really not trying to crap on threads.

I hear ya Pretender, I had a brand new 32"JVC, but I gave it to my girlfriend becuase she's finishing up her PhD while I'm in Law school. SHe also has the better DVD player and a host of my goodies. But, its better this way :)

I have the 75-300 thingie, but the problem is that I have to run the RCA out into the RCA in to the VCR and then out to the TV which results iun the macrovision. I ned to run the RCA out form the DVD player into the TV directly. I tried splicing the wire and running a pseudo cable, but nothing doing :(

That sounds like an investment plan: Give good TV to girlfriend so she stays with you, so that when she gets a good paying job after getting her PhD you'll be set for life. ;)

Well, psychology doesn't pay what it used to...I should out earn her by $25-30K as a first year associate...It ain't fair, she might clear $50k, but we have friends making $40ish with a few years of college...gotta be in it for the love of the game :)

What you need is an RF modulator. In a nutshell, it converts a composite video signal into an RF signal. You connect the DVD player's composite video out to the modulator and connect the TV to the modulator via coax cable. The audio outs on the DVD player connect to your receiver. I saw one at Wal-Mart made by Philips for about $30.

An example of such a device can be seen here:

RF modulator

hope this helps
