How do you connect 2 computers over the internet?

Me & a friend are trying to get our computers hooked up so that we can get files from eachother as opposed to having to directly send them to eachother. What's the easiest way of doing this? Both using XP Pro. Remote Desktop? FTP? I tried to get DropChute Lite which sounds perfect in the download.com description but it doesn't seem like the program is still available.

Please let me know how to go about doing it too. If FTP, how do i set up a server?

Thanks alot. 🙂

Use FTP. Easy to set up.

Get Bulletproof FTP Server from http://www.bpftpserver.com
Install it.
Goto Setup, User Accounts.
Right click in the right hand box. Fill in the boxes.
Right click in the middle box, add, choose the directory and set permissions.
Press ok.
Goto Main, General Options.
Set a ftp server name and port number.
Then just click the lightning bolt under the server menu.
All done.

Thanks, sounds easy enough. Now, I know that I'm likely asking for too much here but is there a freeware version of this type of software?

Feel free to blast me if you must. 😀

Ok, got it installed. Now how do I get it so that I can connect with someone else? Don't I need an FTP address? Sorry for the newbie question, but I'm not all that familiar with FTP.

Thanks.

your ip address. or better yet, you can use a program such as dns2go to create a permanent ftp address that will link to your ip address (unless you have static ip).
