i think some references to my old card are causing problems when I boot up.

As a golden member, you should know we need more details then that.

Based on the information given, I'd say you should format. Seriously ;) I had my GTS in my computer, and installed like 5+ driver versions. When I put my Ultra in, I could only use the official 6.50 (or whatnot) WHQL driver set. After a format the 12.xxs worked fine.

If you installed detenator drivers, there's a program to remove them at fileforum.

you can try backing up your registry, then removing everything related to the old card from the registry.

well i went from a gf2 to a gf3... i thought there might be a general way of doing it. I know reformatting/reinstalling is the best way, but I'm trying to avoid that right now. Once WinXP rolls around, I'm gonna have to do it anyways...so I just don't want to deal with it yet. I'll try that fileforum thing if i can find it.

well the drivers are the same, but the card it detects is different. anyways, i think the detonator destroyer program worked. Giants isn't crashing on me anymore. I lost my hardware options panel though... can't overclock. :disgust:
