twice...what do i tell her? what do i say? she's going hysterical and she keeps sayin she can't take it anymore...and has hurt herself by hitting things around the house. as a friend...what can i do to ease this, other than telling her that the guy was a d*ckhead and it'll be okay.

Hmm, should I state the obvious or not? I'll let someone else take it.

How long was she with the guy? I'm guessing she dumped him?

There isn't much you can do. Just comfort her. Tell her it's alright, everyone dates their fair share of assholes and bitches.
Everything else will take time.

Tell her that she's wasting her energy on a person who does not deserve one iota of consideration on her part. Tell her that it just wasn't meant to be, and that someone more derseving of her is in her future and that she needs to pull herself together and turn the page in the big book of life and move on. If that doesn't work, get her drunk on some cheap wine and have sex with her.

just tell her she's better off and cheaters suck. tell her she's lucky she didn't stick around and marry him & have kids etc. if he cheats then, that's when the fun really begins. ask her what percentage of young people dating end up being cheated on. tell her it's like 85% even though it's just talking out of your ass. then say, "and that's how we identify who is good enough for you. i'll always be here for you no matter what." place your hand on her shoulder and give her a slight rub and then a pat. say, "you'll be fine!" and smile. look her in the eyes until she smiles with you. go get icecream.

Just make sure she knows not all guys are like that. And I agree with Mosh ... ensure she knows it isn't her.

I dunno where that's from, but I laughed.

But back to the topic:

Definitely console her and keep her busy. It's important to not let her slip down too far on the emotional path at this time.
