I would check with the manufacturer of your LCD. Not all LCDs are the same. Youprobably cant go wrong with a soft cloth and water, but better to be safe than sorry.

does it get smeary?

If it does, dry the excess water off immediately with a dry cloth, then there will be no marks

..water on a soft cotton cloth seems to work best. I tried the windex wipes and such and end up wit a smeared mess.

i use windex. i know i know, the amonia will eat through the plastic coating. BUUUT, by the time that happens, your entire computer will have broken down and decayed. i've been doing it to my laptop for about two years and have had no problems. did it to the one before that for about 6 years. dont use it if you have anti-glare coating though, that will take that stuff off
