how do you clean a couch?

I'm getting this old couch set from my bro. I think it's microsuede, some kind of cloth. It has dog hair on it and some food stains and junk on it (from a bachelor pad, it was in his tv room). What's the best way to clean it? My first though, of course, is some heavy-duty vacuuming with my dad's shop vac. What's the best couch/upholstery cleaner to use on it?

Because it's microsuede, you may have issues. When you get it, check the cusions for tags and see if there are cleaning recommendations printed somewhere. Other than that, maybe find a similar material in a furniture shop and ask them how to clean it.

wassat?

You can rent a steam cleaning machine from many places (they rent them out in the grocery stores here) or pay to have a cleaner do it for you. I'm pretty sure it will work with microfiber, but you shold ask a cleaner just to be sure.

Cool, thanks. The extent of my knowledge of couches = you can sit on them 🙂
