How do you check temp for ECS K7S5a in Windows?

I know you can check it in the bios, but I need to check the temps under full load..i downloaded MBM5 (which i've never used before) but after messing with it a bit I still couldn't get any readings...

MBM is great, but it can be confusing if you have never used it before.

The alternative is to use Speedfan. It provides alot of useful information (temps, fan speeds, HD monitoring) and automatically detects the ECS K7S5A in Windows.

thanks for the suggestions!

i ended up going with speedfan (though i haven't used sisoft sandra for temperature readings, i've read it's not that accurate?)...oddly enough i can't reproduce the problems i was having yesterday.

I just setup my system, and the first time around i put a very light coating of AS3 on my xp2000's core, and the idle temps were very high (~57C)...i took it out and slapped a bit more AS3 on, and my idle dropped to 44C. However, under max load, the system kept rebooting...i dunno if the AS3 needed to break-in, or my new Antec 430W truepower PS couldn't handle powering 3hd's, 3 cdroms, and 6 80mm antec trilight fans.

Anyway, 10mins of being under full load and i'm still here and hitting 51C 🙂

Are you using the retail HSF?

I just build a system with the K7S5A and 2000+ (not overclocked), and I am getting the same temp as you. I'm using a generic HSF very similar to the AMD retail HSF that I picked up at the local computer shop.

My old Palomino core XP2000+ used to run quite hot with stock cooler and thermal compound (temperatures running in the mid to high 60's under normal loads!). With a Vantec Aeroflow and AS2, my temps dropped to the high 30s, low 40s on regular usage. Currently, my XP2000+ sits on my ECS K7S5A board with the stock cooler from a Barton XP2500+ (much more substantial than the stock 2000+ cooler) and runs comfortably in the low-mid 40s. I definitely recommend the Vantec Aeroflow ... really nice cooler (currently sitting on my Barton XP2500+, keeping it in the mid-30s 🙂.

actually i'm using a GC68 i picked up from SVC with an antec tri-light 34cfm 80mm fan on top of it...i wanted a relatively quiet system, however with 6 of these fans in my plusview 1000amg it's pretty audible 🙁. I know for a fact that the stock hsf's suck, I had one on my xp1700 and ran into many, many overheating problems...my computer became much more stable once I replaced the hsf with this GC68, picked up some AS3, and put on a 54cfm 80mm fan from SVC (which was loud as hell)

on this system, after OCing my xp2000 to xp2100 speeds, and after about 24hours of breaking in, i've been hitting about 44C idle and 50C during max load...I just hope the values are relatively acceptable once summer really kicks in...
