Wow must cost a fortune to heat that house.

You could probably build a whole new room up there, that's kind of an inefficient use of space other than the coolness factor.

The poles as suggested sound like the best idea. Ladders become kinda unsafe at those heights given you have nothing to put it against to get proper reach.

Oh another thing, if you can indeed get into the attic, what I'd do is add an access door beside each fixture that you can open from the attic, you could open it and stick your arm out to change the bulb. This may be messy if you have blown insulation though. I'm guessing there's no attic though.

The house is pretty energy efficient as it cost around $160/m throughout this winter. We keep the thermostat at 70degrees. I agree with it being a complete waste of space and wished the built a room instead.

Like I said, I have an 8 feet A-Frame ladder and it wouldn't reach at all. I am considering the pole and one of the attachment as suggested. But the one thing i don't know about is do they just unscrew? It looks like the bulbs are inside the frame of the light assembly...

160/mo is not bad at all. Guess proper insulation is what does the trick more than anything, and I'm guessing it's decent as it looks like a pretty new house.

Now that you mention it, looks like the assembly comes apart then the bulb is inside, so the pole may not work.

Though looking at it further I think if you got an extension ladder up against the wall you should be able to safely reach the light fixture without leaning too much.

Do what we do at our school. Get a sound system and turn up the bass to the max.

We break about 6 bulbs on concert nights out of 60 or so because they all unscrew themselves over the course of the night. It's awesome.

My place has vaulted ceilings and the sucky part is in the summer it gets hot in here. There is no attic space so the sun heats the living space directly instead of the attic. Makes my AC bill go up :(

it looks like i could change all of those bulbs except a maybe the top middle one with a basic extension ladder. if the ladder is resting against the wall, has a good angle and you reach over your head, you're usually a good 3-5 feet from the wall. The ceiling also looks slanted, so I would personally use the geometry to wedge a ladder in. It's not safe or recommended, but most home improvement jobs require a certain risk investment.

I'm pretty concerned about eventually changing some bulbs in my house. I have a closed dome-style fixture above the first landing of my stairs, which is probably 15' up. I have no idea how I'm going to change the bulbs. I don't know anybody with a big enough ladder.

Well I have seen lightbulbs in high places changed using an extended pole with a rubber grip on it to grab the light and twist it. Another method would be to not put a light that high. However, many houses have tall 2 story entrance ways with lights. Reminds me of how they use stilts to hang drywall. They do make tall ladders.

Just to make sure, you did stand on the very top of the ladder? The "do not step" warnings are more of a guide, and the ladder will still hold together. Obviously you shouldn't attempt that if you have poor balance. How tall are you?

I have the exact same situation and bought a ladder specially tall enough to reach the light. The fact that the question was asked makes me think it wasn't obvious. I was under the impression the OP didn't know you could get a non-special/normal ladder larger than 8ft.
