How do you catch your crabs? Texas to be avoided at all costs?

When we catch crabs we use a piece of crabing string. We take a piece of raw chicken tie it to the string and toss it into the water but hold the string or tie it to something conecting to the pier and check it now and then by bringing it up slowly.

We catcht them by jumping off the Golden Gate or at least that's why my local crab pot guy says gives um such flavor.

nothing like some nice Dungeness crab stir fried with green onion and ginger (chinese restaurant style). Yum yum. In San Francisco you can go crabbing and fishing on a public pier, but the dungenesses aren't allowed, they save those for the restaurants. You can take the black clawed ones though, not sure what those are called..
My dad likes to use fish heads and chicken carcasses for bait in a big round crabbing net.
