How do you call in sick?

What do you say? "I'm not coming in" or "Hickory dickory dick, I'm calling in sick"?

Just curious because I called in today and it was kind of an awkward phone call. Then again I'm running at about 5%.

Hi [name of boss], this is [your name]. I'm not feeling well and am going to stay home today and get some rest. You can call me if you need to talk to me about anything.

I always call early when I know no one is in the office.
"I'm not feeling well and won't be in today."

Nice and vague, and legally, they can not ask me to define "not feeling well". So, it works out nice.

I usually email in as well, since I'm generally letting them know before my shift starts at 7 a.m. Doesn't happen often though ...

I won't be in today, there's a fire at the old mill, and I heard that little timmy fell down the well, so I'll be at the fire dept. today. Goodbye.

Hello <insert supervisor's name here>. This is <insert your name here> calling and I'm not feeling well today. *Cough cough*. I was hoping to take the day off to rest *Puke* if that's ok with you. If you see someone <insert what YOU are really calling in sick for (i.e. golfing etc...), it's not me *sneeze*, it's my twin brother. Thank you *Puke* for your consideration.

gah, the call is always awkward for me because 90% of the time i'm not sick *per se*... but...

"Hi James? Jay. I'm not feeling well today, I'm going to sit this one out."

*cough hack teeing off in an hour cough hack*

First, I would like to thank the academy for nominating and voting for me for this award. Also, I would like to thank my mother, without whom I would not have acquired the skills required to give such performances.

Ha, I called in this morning. I said, "Hi, this is Matt. I'm not going to be in today. I'm not feeling well." Reply was, "okay, hope you start feeling better."

Tada! Day off with pay.
