How do you calculate your Major GPA?

Which courses are you supposed to include when calculating your major GPA? I'm applying to grad school at the end of this year as a molecular biology major. Do I include courses that are prerequisites to my major (i.e. physics, chemistry, math, english, etc.)? How about the lower division general bio classes I took? Or, do they just want the GPA of my upper division molecular bio classes?

Say you needed 64 credits of certain classes to fulfill your molecular bio major, the GPA of those classes would be the Major GPA.

That's how it is for my school, yours might be different.

Your GPA for your major is anything requisite of that major, i.e. not including any GE's or electives.

upper division requirements within your major. so if your mol. biology dont count any lower div classes, or upper div humanities, or any upper div tech classes that werent required (maybe you took an EE course for kicks).

So basically it's upper division classes related to your major?

Excellent! That's what I wanted to hear. You just made my day! I probably have a 3.8-3.9 in my upper div bio classes and a 3.0 in all the rest of my classes...

check your university's catalog, in mine it says this (for Computer Engineering):
The Major GPA shall include all UA courses offered/crosslisted by the ECE & CSC departments, whether they are required or not.

yes, anything with the course lettering, e.g., CS, SOC or EE (depending on your major and how it's noted in the course listings)

Like he said.

my sceenrio was as a Electrical Engineer (EE)
So I had to average all my classes starting with EE. EE101, EE201, EE312, etc ..... You can always toalk to human resources at your school for THE enswer. Best off doingthat, but the rule I gave you is definitely an acceptable method. It might get tough if you took, say a CE412 course, which "should" count towards your major. My school had many EE412 and CE412 courses which are identical, so that scenerio never came up for me.
