How do you calculate what Ram speed is needed for a cpu running a particular FSB?

yeah, i can look up the charts.

but i'm curious how it's calculated that if fsb=x, you need ram speed=y?

PC3200 is DDR400 which runs at 200MHz
The FSB is also double rate which means the base frequency is also 200MHz.

Yeah there is

"With data being transferred 8 bytes at a time DDR RAM gives a transfer rate of (memory bus clock rate) × 2 (for dual rate) × 8 (number of bytes transferred). Thus with a bus frequency of 100 MHz, DDR-SDRAM gives a max transfer rate of 1600 MB/s."

400fsb = 400 x 8 = pc3200

multiple fsb by 8

why didnt u say that in the 1st place?! :p

thx!

if i told you just take 400 times 8, you wouldn't have learned anything, and I'd have 3 less posts :p
