How do you calculate GPA?

A = 4
A- = 3.66
B+ = 3.33
etc.

multiply the number of units your class is by the chart shown above and then divide by the total number of units. If your classes don't differ in units, just add up the scores according to the chart shown above and divide by the number of classes you're taking. Some schools count all A's as 4 and all B's as 3 and if that's the case, then just use whatever system your school uses.

well basically you can assign point values to your grades: A=4,b=3,c=2,d=1,f=0, then you can add up all your grades and divide it by the number of grades you got. That should tell you your gpa

It varies by school and whether you're on a 5.0 or 4.0 scale, but I think the usual method is:

A=4.0
B=3.0
C=2.0
D=1.0
F=0.0

Again, it depends on the school...some have variations like

A+=4.0
A=3.75
A-=3.5
B+=3.25
B=3.0
B-=2.75
C+=2.5
C=2.25
C-=2.0
D+=1.75
D=1.5
D-=1.25
F=1

You just add them together and take the average.
So going by the first system, if I have 3 A's and a B, that's 3 4.0's and a 3.0 averaged together, which gives a 3.75 GPA.
Hope that helps.

also if you want to calculate them for college (most colleges), only assign a whole number to each grade for example A- is still 4 points, and so is an A+ is 4 points. However if you are donig it for colleges you have to factor in that AP classes (and most honors classes) get an extra grade bump, so an A in an AP class is a 5 point and a B in an AP class is a 4 points

UCs do it this way.

A=4.0
B=3.0
C=2.0
D=1.0
F=0.0

for (+) grades, add 0.3 (exception is A+ in which 4.0 is highest)
for (-) grades, subtract 0.3 .

after that, mulitiply each class grade point by the number of units the class is worth.

add up those multiplications.

divide by the number of units that you have taken.

that is your GPA.

It's different for each school and class. Some are weighted more than others depending on credit amount.

correct me if i'm wrong, but i think you guys are all calculating grade points. grade point average, is the weighted average of grade points from each class you take. so it's like number of credits multiplied by grade point, add them all up, and divide by the total number of credits. or something like that.

edit: okay looks like you guys just did both :)

at uc berkeley:

A/A+ = 4.0
A- = 3.7
B+ = 3.3
B = 3.0
B- = 2.7
C+ = 2.3
C = 2.0
C- = 1.7
D+ = 1.3
D = 1.0
D- = .7
F = 0

to calculate gpa take sum of all your grades multiply by their respective number of units and divide by the total number of units

At the college I go to you have:

A - 4.0
B - 3.0
C - 2.0
D - 1.0
F - 0

Then you take the grade and multiply it by the nuber of credit hours for the class. Then you divide by the number of credit hours you had all together.

Ex. If you had two 3 hour classes and you got an A and a B and you had a 4 hour class that you got a B in.

12+9+12=33

33/10=3.3

Your GPA would be 3.3

Total number of quality points divided by credit hours. But don't forget to subtract any credits that were credit only first. I had a dean of admissions at a college I wanted to transfer to refuse to do that last part and it fvcked up my GPA. I tried to explain what he was doing wrong and the bastard was like 'I know what I'm doing now be quiet.' Stupid SOB, how do idiots like this get to hold positions at education instutions of all places?
