how do you buy a savings bond for a gift?

do i just go to a bank and tell them i want a savings bond for a gift or what?

anybody ever done this before?

ps its for a minor/child/kid not related to me

Yes, you can go to a bank and buy one. Make sure you have the social security number of the minor you're buying it for.

BTW, you may want to look into TIPS (Treasury Inflation Protected Strips, also known as "I-bonds") instead of regular savings bonds.

glad i asked (thanks glenn1)

i don't have the kids SS# and i wanted it to be a surprise, so asking for the SS# will sorta mess that up


hmmm...

maybe i will do something else for this gift
