How do you burn .img files with Win?

Or is it purely a Linux image file?

Try this :

Get WiNiSO ,try extracting the .img or at least try an open it with winiso.If it does work,rename it to .iso and burn with your favorite burning program or just extract to a folder of your choice.Pretty much every burning program now days supports .iso .
Sometimes these are Toast images made on a Macintosh,or like you said,linux images.
