I have a Panasonic DVD LV60 Portable DVD player.

I'm going to be going on a 16 hour flight soon....

and I want to rip my DVD movies into DIVX and then burn them onto a DVD-R or DVD+R.

How do I make it so it will work on my dvd player?

I have NO idea how to get this done.

Thanks!

Sounds more like you downloaded a divx offline and want to burn it to DVD. Why would you DVD->Divx->DVD-R?

1st off, you can't rip them into divx and play them on a regular player. i don't know of many DVD players out there that play .avi.

2nd off, are you going to be playing your DVD-R/DVD+R on a laptop or on like, a real DVD player? If you're doing #1, you can rip to divx, burn it on a cdr or dvd, and just play it using windows media player or something. If you're doing #2, divx won't work.

3rd off, isn't this kinda not what you're supposed to be talking about in ATOT due to stupid rules?

but anyways, what you would do is rip the DVD onto your hard drive (it's several gigs) using one of the many programs out there, then burn it onto DVD media, which is one way. the other way is to rip the DVD, and make them 700 meg mpeg files. Burn that with nero as a VCD, and you're probably good to go, since 99% of all dvd players will take VCD. The only problem is for a high quality rip it takes 3-4 CDRs.

actually, DVD -> SVCD may be a better way to go in terms of quality (instead of VCD). It'll take 3-4 CD-R's. DVD2SVCD is an AWESOME all in one program that's very simple to use. Providing your DVD player can play SVCDs, of course :)

here is what i want to do.

i am going on a 16 hour flight.

instead of lugging around a bunch of my original dvd's, i'd like to rip them to divx, and then burn them onto CD-r or DVD-r, so i can play it on my portable dvd player.

that way i can watch movies on the plane, and when i am travelling too.

i don't want to lug my original movies around, and if i can fit a crapload of movies onto a dvd-r, then that would be awesome. all the movies i want to watch are all mine. i don't care about having HQ movies because it's a 6" screen.

So basically you want to take a couple DVDs, burn them to DVDR at a lower-quality, smaller resolution (to reduce file size) so you can fit more than one movie on a DVDR? (what a run on)

dvdrhelp.com will do wonders for you then. :) From just a quick look on the site they have a bunch of guides for DVD->SVCD (then SVCD->DivX) as well as one for DVD->DivX directly.
