I tried using the demos files AT provided on their intiall HL2 GPU roundup 2yrs ago ,but they didn't work as unsurprisingly HL2 has been updated & its broken the demoes.

How do they benchmark it now? (a bit of searching here & at AT turned up nothing)

I want to see the difference between my current 9700 Pro & my new(2nd hand) XT800XT PE ;)

TIA

[edit] I see in a review of the 4200 about a year latter they use the halflife 2 guru3d demo 5.Is this what they use now?.Btw Im downloading that demo now ,but if there's an easy way to fix those older demoes I'd be interested to know

Ok thanks ,I've ended up using the HOC benchmarking tool for it which is great :) ,but is it possible to get ATs old demeos working again?

No because the game has changed its server details through patching so the old demos can no longer connect.

you can record your own demos from the console, then play them back in timedemo mode which will give you a score.

Believe the command to record is "record". You also need to enable the console from the adv keyboard options.

Hl2 comes with counter strike source, i dont know how reliable it is but in-game you can do a stress test.

Lol, I guess it pretty is reliable, sorta. Because the stress test isn't really anything you're gonna see in CSS.

Thanks for the input folks :)

I had wanted to run the AT demos so I could compare scores ,nm.
With some trial & error I found which demos were more CPU or GPU bound.

Oh & my new card is over twice as fast :D (when scores aren't held back by the CPU) ,anyway I can now whack the details up & play to the monitors max of 1600x1200:cool:

Btw what's this new demo AT uses for HL2, episode one?? ,where's that from?
