What I want out of life is simple. A job that gives me a sense of purpose, and pays the bills. After interviewing with several different corporations, I've learned the corporate life just isn't for me. I just want something that pays the bills, and allows me the advantage of having a good amount of free time to enjoy life. It seems like this day and age, everyone attempts to embark on some ladder of upward mobility, even if it means working 12 hour days in some cubicle, making other people rich. That's not the type of life I want to lead. Has anyone here ever felt this way?

Yeah. Its all about the state of mind you take. You can choose to be happy no matter what point of life you are in. Make the best out of every situation. If you don't like whats happening, use that as an internal motivation to make yourself strive for more.

Why would you want to? You'd never accomplish anything like that. You'd spend your days simply existing.

Well have you tried to start your own business? You'd work hard, but it would be for yourself!

I feel the same way you do. I don't want to spend my whole life at work. Your job should be what you do, not who you are.

I was talking more in regards to monetary goals. Of course I would still have personal goals. It seems like everyone treats you like some sort of leper if you aren't clawing your way to the top of your profession; or if you make under a certain amount of money. Why?

Because it's those that are in the top of the profession that free themselves from the bondage of the corporate nonsense. It's something of a catch-22; you want the freedom, but you don't want to go through the years of attrition that it takes to get there. I don't mean this negatively toward you or anything. I feel much the same.

Freedom of choice is the ultimate goal for a lot of people. If it were something easy to achieve then none of us would work. The only choice for a lot of people is to do something on their own, but this presents the same problem: To do something on your own you have to be established, and that takes years of positive experiences and proven successes.

Put things in perspective. Look at how people live all around the world. A huge percentage merely subsist. When's the last time you worried where your next meal would come from?

Look back in our not too distant past. Life was HARD, and kids had to help out in order for a family to survive. Can you imagine depending on farming to live?

The poor in our country today, live better than most people in the world, and have a MUCH easier life than our great, great grandparents.
