How do you become a bank teller?

I heard that you have to take a class in order to hold the job of being a bank teller and I have also heard that you only need to go through training....Which one is true?

my ex gf was a bank teller. she just applied and they took her down there and she learned on the job. gave her some sheets of numbers to memorize for the system. ie: 301 would be deposit to checking. that was about it. no class or anything like that. at least here. they dont make good money...at least not here (6-7$)

I was in ROP down in S. CA where they give you on site training.. after a month the bank needed someone and hired me on the spot.. and gave me $1 higher than the starting wage because they didn't really have to train me I was given a cash box on my first day as a teller. i started $8/hr

ROP = Regional Occupational Program (I think)
where it's usually for adults.. taking classes relates to the job that you want to get and they will place you onsite for training and then maybe you will get hire from them..
