How do you Backup ICQ

i backup the icq contact list and everyting with icq rescue, and when i restore them, nothing has happen, anyone know how to restore all the contact list again? thanks.

I just copy my folder (99b or 2000b) out. When I reinstall, I go thru the preliminary setup (ICQ#) and then drop the folder in over the new 2000b folder. Fire up ICQ and it's all there!

when do you put in the folder back to the program files when you install the icq?

Copy the folder. Reinstall ICQ. Set it up as an existing member. After you've registered, shut down ICQ and replace the 2000b with your backup. Fire it up and your contacts and history will be right there waiting for you. I've done it twice in the last couple of weeks.

########.idx

& you're all set - just put those back in

Any idea how to transfer the info from a 2000a install to a completely fresh 2000b install? It is not an upgrade but a new installation cause I formated my comp. I backed up the entire icq directory but when I replaced the new install of icq with the backup folder it would work probably cause they are different versions. I tried transfering those files but that didn't seem to work either. Am I screwed because I am going from 2000a to 2000b?

ya just copy db folder out
then pop them back in icq folder
then start ICQ

I think it has been covered, but I just copy the folder, too.

The folder name should be the problem, that's what happend when I ran into a problem with Trillian.

You need to run the database conversion tool, found in the \ICQ\ folder in the start menu.

you dont need to run the conversion tool for the database. i never do that and everyhings there. just copy out the 2000b folder...or whatever folder corresponds to the version you were using.

Replacing the folder in the same directory as I had it before I formated my computer doesn't work. The folder name is the same. I don't have the db converstion in my startup anymore. Where is it in the main ICQ folder? I'm going from 2000a to 2000b.... is this the problem? All I want is my contact list... the history is less important. But I can't get it to work. Replacing the folder or replacing certain folders just doesn't seem to work.

Sweet, I replaced the 2000b directory with my old 2000a directory and when I restarted it converted the database to create a new 2000b directory. Now I have ALL my contacts back and my history... awsome.
