How do you archive emails?

I have like 7000 private e-mails since last May and I don't wanna delete them. I'm using IMAP so they're stored on the server. It takes very long to get it loaded thru my Squirrelmail Webmail so my question to you ladies is: How do you archive your e-mails?
 
Setup an IMAP account in Oulook Express or anything you want. Export all mail to a file and keep the file.

Is this what you are asking?

not really. I know how to do it but the question was more, IF you archive your emails and when yes, why? I know, didn't word the question too good 😉
