How do you add a password to a XP shared dir?

I have a open WiFi network, I'm not really concerned if a neighbor jumps on, but I'd like to share directories so I can move files around my three computers. Is a password possible, it's not listed under the share tab in properties. Is there a better method?

You would have to encrypt it. or set the permishions to not allow people to access it w/out the proper rights and then it would ask for a pwd.

This is the best idea, but it will require disabling Simple File Sharing. Which is a good thing to do anyway with any wireless network, especially an open one. Make sure the password is strong because your computers are exposed and openly accepting connections via file sharing.

I don't think you can (easily) set permissions with XP Home. I think that requires the Pro version. Actually, I remember reading some article on TweakXP.com where you could do it from safe mode or a command prompt or something, but a quick search of that site comes up empty.

Are you using XP Home or Pro?
