How do wireless access points work?

I have my pc downstairs plugged into my modem and wireless router (2 nics)

I was using ICS to share internet to my sons pc upstairs. His pc had a wireless card. That card broke.

I was wondering if I could get a wireless access point that would let my run 2 wires from it to his pc and my girls computer. Her computer is a old imac that I don't want to take apart to put a airport card in.

Her imac as of now hasn't had internet. I would like to get them both online without buying 2 more wireless cards.

Would a wireless access point let me do this?

Thanks

JB

You need a wireless bridge. Some Routers/AP's will do bridging, but not all.

I got a buffalo (WHR-54GS or something), loaded ddwrt on it, and am doing something similar.

Thanks guys. I found a few things that will work on newegg. They have a AP/bridge section.
