how do warranties work with electronics?

was discussing this with a friend of mine and i know a lot of people post things for sale saying it is still under warranty.

If you have somthing under warranty, is the warranty always transferable to the new owner?

usually the answer is no. Some companies don't care. Its completely YMMV

All of the warranties I've seen are restricted to the original buyer.
