my friend/mechanic has been holding my car in his garage for over a week now... imagine what i have to go through a whole week of snow and valentine day without car here in buffalo... i'm not blaming him for my mishap, but how do i tell him to hurry the fark up in the most polite way possible. suggestion??

"I apprecaite you doing me a favor by looking at and working on my car. However, I've got a lot of things that have been piling up and I would greatly appreciate if you'd be able to finish working on my car as soon as possible. Thanks again for taking the time out of your schedule to help me out."

Just ask when its going to be ready. Is he doing it for free or at a good discount? If so, suck it up and try to deal with it as much as you can. Just keep asking if its ready over and over and over again. If your paying the same as any other customer then just tell him you would really appreciate it if he could get your car done as soon as possible. If he doesnt get it done fast enough, and you are in fact paying full price, take it somewhere else.

Is he fixing your car for free or at a heavily discounted prices? If so, you need to say what BigJ said.

If NOT, you need to say "Hurry the f*ck up and fix my car or I'll have it towed someplace else."

That's what I say and no one's ever seemed to have a problem. Just a normal inquiry and as long as you don't sound irritated or such, it really can't be taken the wrong way (unless you do it multiple times a day 😛).

If it's something simple as replacing plugs than he's dragging a$$. But if he's doing a rebuild or something major it may take him a while. Also as others have mentioned is this free work he's doing or are you paying him?

i'm paying him, but at an discounted rate. come on guys, how can u not paying someone even if he's your friend and he's doing all the greasy work for you. i did suck it up for a whole week, but at least he owes me a phone call by telling me what's wrong with it.

The trick is persistence. Not a rude kind of pestering, but polite and firm to get your point across.

Tell him that the corpse in the trunk will start to smell really bad soon and you wouldn't want him dealing with the stench if he were to work on the car at a later time.
