How do u remove MSN Messenger in XP?

Here's a command that you can run at the command prompt:

Rundll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

I got it from the past issue of Maximum PC. You'll have to type it in exactly as displayed. There are also some answers over at TweakXP Hope this helps.

thx!

i saw this at tweakxp about uninstalling it, and to prevent it from running in the future. does it somehow re-install itself automatically?

If you go to the WindowsUpdate site and download a MSN Messenger update and it doesn't find it there, it will re-install. Just make sure not to select any Messenger updates and you'll be safe.

i know this is vaguely o/t of this thread but....

if sp1 can allow you to remove ie/oe as well would this imply that you could remove ie/oe 6 and then replace it with 5.5??? I generally have no probs with using ie as a browser but definitely prefer 5.5 over 6 (hence all the machines i put together for my mates have not had 6 on them)

cheers
c.

Open the file named c:\windows\inf\sysoc.inf

scroll down until you find a line that reads:
msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7

remove the ",hide" from the line, save the file. Then go into Add/Remove Programs and remove it as you would normally 🙂

Just a note, you have to goto "Add/Remove Windows Components" on the left of the Add/Remove Programs menu. Great tip 🙂
