how do u create a bootable backup DVD...

I want to backup my OS and drivers and put them on DVD for future recovery, but i don't know any software that does it or how to do it. I want to do this because i have a one-time-use serial for winXP but if i ever have to format my HD, I will lose my OS. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.
