How do those internet ads know where I live?

If I whois myself, it says I live in Calgary. But in reality I don't live anywhere near there. I live outside Edmonton. But somehow these 'personal ads' offer me women in STONY PLAIN. I live 3km from Stony Plain. HOW?

Your Ip address gives you away. For example my comcast address has the state and main junction for my connection listed in it.

Go to command prompt and do a tracert to cnn.com for example.. your 2nd or 3rd hop may say something about where you live...

Nope. That's a road, not even a city (they blanket the node with it because the zip code map here is totally retarded). The ads have a specific city.
