Why doesn't the Spongebob balloon end up being round? Isn't that the way balloons work? Or is it a bunch of separate sections or something?

Just curious.

On the Macy's parade. I turned the TV on the wrong channel by mistake - don't usually watch this stuff, but I'm curious.
 
It's the way it's sewn/created... They probably have 2 layers... one inside filled with air, and then one outside of that with a square frame around it that is not inflated.
