How do they install @home service to neighboorhoods?

do they install new fiber optic cables? a few streets away they have been installing alot of cable in white pipes about 3-4 inches thick. yesterday they put markings and arrows on my block can they be getting ready to install new cable?

They've been doing that to my whole area (read; 2 mile radius)

well i hope so! been waiting around 5 years for cable! maybe ill be able to dump my dish soon!

They're doing something like that here too. A company that was contracted called Maxtec out of Florida.

i wish.......I have nothing out here. No cable, no DSL, possibly IDSL, but it would cost as much as ISDN.

My modem even connects at 21600.....

I got @Home service over a year ago. The cable company did no work to the cables winding through my neighborhood. We DID get a new line from our house to the phone pole in the back of our yard. The installers said our house hookup line was over 15 years old and couldn't handle the cable modem service. The new line has worked like a charm - it's the best service I've ever had.
