lol.....

Corn syrup is made from corn starch. The starch is converted to fructose and glucose through enzymatic and chemical reactions.

Corn syrup is startin to piss me off. It's in almost every juice/drink in out there. I avoid it as much as possible.

also, soda made with real sugar tastes better.

Agreed.

I can buy it in a few shops here in the Phoenix area but it's substantially more expensive.

I wouldn't be surprised if corn syrup was the #1 eaten foodstuff in the US. I avoid anything but 100% juice and now bake my own junk food instead of buying it :)

You can blame 'Big Sugar' for controlling the prices of sugar and getting tariffs to reduce demand on imports, thus encouraging companies to use corn syrup or other types of substitutes to keep costs down. One of those other 'Florida' things to be upset about I guess.

IIRC, Coca Cola syrup is made from /derived from Sugar in some countries, such as Mexico I believe, but in the states they use corn syrup. That is claimed to be why some foks like the taste of Coca Cola better in other countries than here, but since I've never tried it nor do I know if there are other factors like water quality, etc, I really don't know.

I do know that I bought some chocolate syrup recently and the only one that was made with sugar was Nestle Quik brand. And if you look at most products Corn Syrup is indeed a much more popular choice than sugar.

If you want soda made with real sugar just go to your local specialty/natural foods store (Whole Foods, Wild Oats, Akins). Once you've tasted a quality soda you won't likely go back to Coca Cola.
