How do the Denon numbers work? like 2311 vs 2212?

Anyone have a quick reference to this?

I am getting ready to add HDMI now and my older Yamaha HTR-5960 has none.

I am looking on accessoriesforless and other discounters. I am not locked into Denon, just that they seem to be very popular today.

I am running 5.1 right now, I'd like to get into 7.1. I have no need for a secondary sub.

I know the first number in the Denon lineup is the 'class'.

The second number seems to indicate mostly power rating

The third number means nothing

the last is features.

I am looking at 2xxx to 3xxxx. I am swaying to the 2x12 or 3x12 as they seem to removed more from the later editions than fixed inherent problems. I don't need multiple room. I don't need multiple output.

I plan to have at least 4 HDMI inputs right off the bat. I'd like to have 2 optical inputs as well for my CD changer and a higher level single disc player (both have Toslink and Coax).

I have been good at buying A/V receivers for $450ish for all time. The budget I am hoping for is $650 or less. I am open to spending a bit more if needed.

My listening room is 16x22x7. I am running Klipsch Quartets, Academy, SS 2.5's and an Emotiva Ultra 12 sub.

The first 2 numbers denote the model, the last two numbers denote the model year, but this does not include the new product lines like xX000 series or the EX00 series.

as a quick note, the xx13 model year was for 2012 and xx12 was for 2011. The new stuff for 2013 is the xX000 series or EX00.

I just bought a 2313ci and love it so far. It does have a lot of legacy inputs that some of the lower end models removed to cut cost so you would still be covered on optical (in addition to some other older input types). This is a 7.2 receiver so does support a bit more than what you're looking for but never hurts to have that option in the event you change your mind later.

If you aren't completely set on Denon this Yamaha looks like a decent deal at Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16882115429

Its $50+shipping less than accessories4less has it. It seems to have decent amount of inputs and outputs and the power isn't too bad.

Don't get me wrong, I've been very pleased with my refurb Denon AVR-590, but this seemed like a good deal for their top of the line HTR model.

The RX-A820 looks interesting as well at Accessories4Less as well for $519.

I have heard the Denon self-calibration is much better.

EDIT: No S-Video on the Yamahas :( I'd like to have at least one or two.
