How do the credit card gift cards work?

Shawn

Lifer
How do you know how much is left on the card when you don't charge full amount? Also what happens if there is $15 on the card and you want to charge $20? Most places won't let you do $15 on the card and $5 cash right?

1) You keep track.

2) It is declined.

3) Most places probably won't have a problem with 15$ from the card and 5$ cash, unless it's not possible to do with their register or something.

Something to keep in mind with those, typically they pre-authorize $1-2 everytime you use it. So if you buy something that comes to say $20 (including tax) and you have a $20 visa gift card, it will deny the charge, since it preauthorized $1 and only $19 was available right that instant. You'll get that $1-2 back, but it sure as hell is hard to use the "whole" card. Freakin PITA.

I've never had that problem; course the only one I've ever used was the one I got for test driving an Expedition....

Yep.

Pay them $5 cash and ask to charge the other $15 on your cc gift card, it should work.
