how do the clock speeds of current mobile devices compare to previous generation PC's?

the new blackberry has a 528 MHz cpu. based on clock speeds, it would be like a p3 500, or something similar.

is it safe to assume that although they are different architecture, they will perform similarly?
e.g. is the blackberry CPU as powerful as a P3 CPU?

No. Mobile CPUs lack the cache size and memory speed and bandwidth of previous generation CPUs. Mobile CPUs are also usually underclocked or spend a lot of time running under full spec to save power.

Most mobile devices use ARM architecture CPUs and not mobile-variant general purpose x86 desktop CPUs.
