How Do Tell If Duron Is Locked Or Unlocked?

My friend just got a 600 Duron processor, and wanted to know if it was unlocked or locked, and how to tell if it is.

And if anyone can give me a link on how to overclock the thing? I'll be using a Asus A7v motherboard.

Please reply ASAP. Thanks.

look at the gold things on top of the chip. If there are patterns of two like a verticle ::::: it is "locked". if they are solid like |||||| it is unlocked. to unlock the first type, just make the connection yourself.

See the last page of this article. If the L1 bridges are intact then the multiplier is unlocked - if not, then the multiplier is locked.

Also note that if certain pins are "missing" from the chip, then it may be even more difficult to unlock the multiplier. See this.
