How do red light turn cameras work on intersections?

Got a ticket, I didn't stop at the red light when making a right turn. Yes, my mistake, but I am wondering how this words? The camera just records every turn, and someone has to sit through and watch the footage for every time the light turns red? How is a camera going to know if someone stopped completely, did a rolling stop, or didn't stop at all?

it knows what the traffic light is doing, and if it's all red and detects a vehicle going through, it takes a picture.

It detects your speed as you're approaching and entering the intersection. It knows if you stopped first.

Alright. How would this scenario work then.

I had stopped at a red light. The red light stayed red forever and ever. almost 3 minutes had gone by. So I decide to "run the red light". Fast forward a few days. Mail comes in, ticket included....

Yep, I don't see the problem. The camera apparantly worked fine. If a cop had seen you do the same thing in person, you'd get a ticket as well.

Take the ticket to court and tell the judge, and maybe he'll throw it out.

If the light hasn't changed in 3 minutes you don't run the red light, you back up to make sure you're over the sensor (or to trick it into thinking there are more cars waiting).

A right turn on red is a legal maneuver in most places as long as there is no oncoming traffic. I would assume you would be fine in this case.

Yo, it takes video too. My mom ran the red light while turning right (without stopping) and pic, enlarged pic of licensed plate, and VIDEO came. $75 ticket. Sigh, wimminz can't drive.

You are supposed to come to a complete stop before making a right turn on red. If you roll it, the cameras will get you . I saw this happen not two days ago. Guy came up on the light and did not completely stop and the lights went off behind him as the camera snapped his pic.

If its just a red light:
You have to stop, look, and move when its safe but only on a right turn.
Many people do not know this, (or dont give fuck if a cop car isnt sitting right there).

If it is a red arrow:
YOU CAN NOT TURN.
Nobody knows this, except for me and maybe one other guy.

What happens to some of these people who have those plastic covers over their license plates that are slightly fogged and the camera can't get a clear pic? I'm pretty sure that this is illegal, but I have not heard of anyone getting pulled over for having their license plates not 100% clearly visible. Has anyone encountered this?

license plate covers, clear or otherwise, aren't street legal.
i've been pulled over for it in wilsonville, or. it was late at night and the officer said he couldn't read my plate because of the glare. i didn't get ticketed for it but he said i should remove it when i made it home.

Theres about 10,000 things you can do to your car that wont make it street legal.
The cops (usually) have better things to do than 150-point inspections on every vehicle they see.
If its big and obvious they might pull you over and tell you to correct it, but thats pretty rare.
They usually go for the obvious dangers, like speeding and such.

My friend gets pulled over weekly for having too much tint on his windows. It's usually the same policeman but he always gets a warning.

Wow I'm really glad I live in a place that doesn't have any of these traffic cameras and such. Quite totalitarian if you ask me...
