How do rainchecks work?

I recently went to bestbuy to take advantage of the $19.99 deal on DVD-DL media, and got into a heated argument with the manager there. They claimed they had it in stock, on the phone, and on the bestbuy website, and I trekked it to a somewhat local store.

When I got there, the bestbuy kiosks confirmed stock, but they couldn't find any. After fighting for a raincheck, they finally caved in and gave me one.

Today, the price on the media is $34.99 and there happens to be stock in another store near me, and I go in with a friend to go pick it up. The employees there told me that I cannot purchase it at the $19.99 dollar price because I have to wait for a confirmation of stock through the US Mail..?

I did have the copy of the raincheck where they printed that I had 4 packs of the media on hold/raincheckked. They also said that there was no store manager on the site to help me.

Am I being bullsh!tted? Do I really have to wait until BestBuy decides to give it to me..?

BB is notorious for bait and switch scams. They have been slapped more than a few times with false advertising by doing crap like this. They put something in the paper at a low price, stock 1 item, then refuse to give out rainchecks. The idea is to get people into the store and that is illegal.

They didnt mention anything about what store I could pick it up from, so I assume I could pick it up at any store..? The employee also didnt mention anything about it, he just flat out refused to sell it to me at that price.

Now you're seeing why best buy.... isn't.

Yeah, I also find it weird that these discs are back in stock right after the sale. :disgust:

I bet they had them in the back somewhere (hence the websites showing stock) and didnt put them on the floor so they wont lose too much profit off of them.

Sounds to me like you are being given a load of it.

You hve to get it at the same store. Can't get it at a different one. Rainchecks are local to the store. Just buy it and then return the cheap one with the expensive receipt once you get it.

Always prefered Circuit City over Best Buy. Though CC's DirecTV reps aren't the brightest bulbs in the bunch.

Oh that sucks. I guess I wont bother then. I really dont feel like trekking out today, and I work the rest of the week.

Can I use this rain check to PriceMatch anywhere else?

I doubt any place would accept it as a PM, you would've had a case when the sale was going on, but now, probabaly not.
