I prefer software keyboards myself. I currently use an EVO with Swiftkey and love it. I tried swype but I use to many odd ball words for it to work well, it never seemed to remember them. My major beef with hardware keyboards is it takes two hands to use them. I don't dig BB's so that pretty much leaves Android where all but one is landscape keyboards.

Yea there's some kinda hidden stuff like that. Did you know if you press and hold in a text box it brings up a movable cursor?

That I did figure out, it is roughly the same as the magnifying loupe on the iPhone.

Also, you can get a landscape keyboard in IE, you just need to select a text box. But since you cant get a landscape address bar, it is only a half measure to what I really want.

Metro Browser is a pretty nice alternative that supports a landscape address bar, plus it has tabs and you get a full screen view. Only problem with it is that it seems a bit slower than IE right now but at least it's free to try.

I used keyboards for years, and recently switched from an e71 to a N8. While the large touchscreen is great for web browsing and other point-and-click tasks, I find it frustrating for tasks like typing, selecting text, selecting multiple items, and other things. But I don't type a lot of text these days, and the great new HW makes up for the loss of a keyboard.

I loaded the Gingerbread keyboard on my Evo and it's pretty nice. Good to finally have a native multi-touch keyboard in Android.

I thought exactly the same thing too, because I switched from a vertical slider dumbphone to a full horizontal slider dumbphone and loved it for texting. I was automatically against the touch screen texting idea. Recently while checking out some smartphones in a couple stores and playing with them, I saw what the quality was like. Some of these phones feel really nice and it was a lot easier to type using a touch screen than I expected.

I am SURE that after playing with one for an extended period of time I could easily come to accept the touchscreen only texting.

I used to think the same thing. I own a Epic and never use the hardware keyboard anymore. I love swype but also tried swiftkey which was pretty darn good too.
