How do people play sound files in the middle of a game?

I was on a TF2 server and there were people using voice chat to play some hilarious Jay and Silent Bob clips at appropriate moments. These weren't loaded onto the server...but played directly on the player's speakers which broadcast it over the mic.

I have a few funny sound clips I'd like to use every now and then. How exactly would I go about this? Can you set up a hotkey to play different files in the middle of a TF2 match?

Yeah must be some sort of key-binding that plays a local file.

That being said, I FUCKING HATE THAT SHIT. :p

Most of the servers I play on will insta-ban you if you do that.

If not, I will usually just mute that a-hole.

Dude, there's a guy that comes on one of the TF2 servers I play on, and he just spams total crap music, as loud as possible, through voice chat the entire time. Literally, 100% of the time he's got voice chat open and painful music blaring through. Thank god for mute...

can you mute individual players or do u have to just turn voice completely off? I remember I could do it in TFC but not in TF2

I don't have TF2 for PC, but I believe it has both. CS:S was able to mute all or individuals so I'd be surprised if TF2 can't.

You can mute a single player. Just exit out to the menu and there will be an item in the list that says "mute players" or something along those lines. After a click you'll see a list of everyone on the current server and you can mute as you like.

People who play shit over the voice chat whether it be audio clips or absolute garbage quality music should be globally banned. That is so incredibly annoying.

Then you have to mute everyone one by one to see who it is. Takes forever.

I don't get why they didn't A. Ban whoever it was or B. just switch to another server. I've never had a problem figuring out who was talking in vent.

it's very hard to figure out. You set up your ipod stereo or whatever, hold down the transmit button and put your mike next to the speakers.

very challenging.
