HOw the heck is this done? Wouldn't the house just crumble and fall apart soon as you move it?

A professional house mover. They will install beams and brace the house properly for the move. Very slowly, of course.

If the house couldn't withstand the move, it wouldn't withstand many storms either.

Example of beams.

I went to high school with somebody whose family did house moving. It's pricey, but if you MUST have that house... If the house will fit on a truck you just move it. If it won't then you move the pieces. And yeah, you basically reinforce the house, cut it up, move it (carefully and slowly), put it back together, and patch the cracks. There's no magic to the process, just lots of work and caution. Lots of work.

If you are considering doing this do some research.

Moving the house is really not that expensive, but if there are any utilities involved the costs add up fast. Workers costs will usually be figured at OT rate since this type of thing is done at night.

Buddy of mine did it...11k (hard bid) to move the house 20 some miles....21K (cost billed) for utilities.

:( Ya.

J/k, but someone brought it something up about getting there home moved. I always wondered how this is made possible. Seems like a pretty cool process if you ask me.
