Not sure if this is the right forum or not, mine as well post it here since I believe its video related.

Just curious how people are able to make video clips of their gameplay, like in FPS's, etc, etc. Seems like something cool to be able to do. Any tips on how to do this would be nice too. Thank you.

I suppose it depends, do you mean from your computer, or from a console system, such as PS2 and the like?

edit: Can't spell :(

Yes, a simple capture card or most tv tuner cards can capture a video input such as one from your console system to mpeg-1, mpeg-2, avi, etc..format.

I want to know too; I play DAoC, and would love to get some of our clan raids recorded so I can show my friends.

The only way I can think of is if your video card has tv out you can record to your vcr and then use a capture card to turn it into an avi. It willn't be pretty but it will work. I've done it a few times with my kyro 2 and the results were pretty good considering but my kyro 2 has excellent tv output so results will vary depending on your video card.

If you want to see an avi I created as a test when I first got my kyro 2 then send a private message and I'll send you the site address, please remember that it was just a test and I've used alot of compression to keep the filesize small enough for a fast download.

Ok thanks for the reply. Any other idea's out there? If not, I'll look into the tv out + vcr idea.

Hypercam is pretty good. (search for it on google)
You select the region/window you want to record, the codec for the video, and you're done.

Can hypercam be set for full screen before starting a program?

Games like DAoC and EQ like to take over your computer preventing you from selecting or starting other programs.

Sort of an old post, just curious if there are any other idea's. Or if anyone can explain in further detail how to do the vcr + video capture method. Thanks.

Btw, just to recap. I'd like to find a way to capture my PC gaming (DAoC and other games) into a computer avi or mpg file.

Also, the video card would have to have TV-Out and some sort of Video/IN correct to do the vcr + video capture idea?

If you have two computers, it would be simpler, provided that:
1) The gaming computer needs some sort of TV out - RCA connector, or S-video
2) The second computer needs a capture card; a TV tuner card should have the right connections; they usually have both S-video and RCA inputs anyway.

Then connect the output of the gaming computer's video card to the input of the TV tuner card in the other computer. Then select the compression options you want, hit record, and game.:)
