That one always confused me too. Back in NC, when I was a kid, I remember you could hear the train almost a mile away. How people get suprised & hit by something that weighs 500 tons always amazes me.

This thread reminds me of that horrific video that was circulating the net years ago where two women where trying to cross the train tracks. One of them senses the approaching train and stops, the other walk across the tracks and SMMMMMMMMACK!!!! She gets toasted and her body almost hits the guy with the video camera. Nasty.

500 Tons. Thats only about the weight of 2-4 cars..... Most trains weight 10-12 THOUSAND TONS! And people are stupid, they will stand on the edge of the crossties and get smacked thinking we can miss them, some people will even tell the cops that we didnt even try to swerve after we hit their car. WTF how is our train gonna swerve. Morons. Anyone who gets hit by a train is a Moron.

Yeah. Sure doesn't weigh 100 tons each.

1 ton = 2000 pounds.

LOL, well they are just correcting your weight amount. When you are around them everyday its like a computer nerd listing to a someone else talk about computers, its hard not to correct them..

But in general people are stupid, one day we where at the yard shoving into the yard, and some moron came up and setup a tripod and camera about 5 feet from the rear of our train to take pictures, RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TRACK! If I wouldn't have seen him we would have backed over him, he setup the camera 5 feet from the train AFTER it was already moving he had to have seen it.......

IDIOTS! LOL

My sister's old boyfriend got hit by a train, somehow. No one ever really figured out how it happened. Messed him up pretty bad, not just physically but damaged his brain. He never was the same afterwards.

Heh, it just goes to show you that there are ways of weeding out people without common sense. I always like the signs at RR crossings that say to yield. If you don't know to yield to a vehicle that weighs upwards of 6500 times the vehicle you are in and can't really stop that well, then you don't deserve to be driving, possibly even living...
