How do people convert shows on TV to DivX?

If someone wanted to convert shows on their TV to DivX and put them on their computer what would they use? A Tivo or a video capture card?

Video capture + Divx encoder.

Most video capture cards capture in mpeg or something like that, so a divx encoder obviously makes them divx format.

You could use a capture card. Then use a divx encoder and convert the captured video into a divx file.
