Suppose that I'm using Outlook 2000, and I get a email with an attachment which is a virus, will it harm me even if I don't open it? Or do I have to execute it so that It harms me?

Generally, the attachment would need to be opened.

Install the security updates and such, then delete the file associations for .vbs files, and use your virus scanner.

So suppose if someone did send me a virus, I'd have to execute it for it to work?

I might go back to Outlook now, Eudora is bugging the hell outta me 😉
