Sempies seem to be about the best bang for your buck proc right now w/ ocing... Anyone have any clue how'd they perform w/ folding? Here's the box setup I"m thinking about useing:

Sempron 2600+ Palermo $67
BIOSTAR K8NHA Grand $49
Cheap GF2 Vid card $10
512 RAM $35
CDROM $10
Case +PSU $20 <--- i got a damn good deal on these 😀

Total $191 😀 😀 😀

Now the great thing is, I don't need an HDD b/c I'll be running Overclockix which will autoboot into knoppix and w/ some work on my part, will also autostart w/ my config 😀

If anyone would be interestd in doing a Diskless/Serverless setup like this, i'm be more than will to help🙂

Depends on OC. since they are only single channel, and have the 256K cache, I'd say...with an 114X series, maybe 250 PPD at 2.4GHz?

If I remember correctly, the 939 is about 10-15% faster clock for clock with dual channel memory and double the cache. I have no idea how sensitive the folding client is to cache size and memory bandwidth.

The 2800 and 3100 Semprons seem to top out at 2.4-2.8 depending on the motherboard and chip. The E6 Venice is the same. So I would say your Sempron would be about 15% slower than an Athlon 64 at about half the cost. I think you've got a good idea. Good luck.
